It has been ‘milestone month’ in our abode the last few weeks…sitting up unassisted, crawling, first foods, first consonant sounds & swim lessons for the bub and then my first night out with the girls and my first market stall as a GroVia advocate as well. It feels refreshing to list all that has happened and pause to reflect on these latest milestones. Just by writing this post, the awareness and acknowledgement it gives me is quite powerful. Must write more often!
All week, I’ve been thinking about writing a post and sharing a small little ‘win’ in my Modern Cloth Nappy journey. Let me begin by saying that when I first stumbled upon the option of MCNs (Modern Cloth Nappies), I wanted to go all in and never know what life of disposables was like for a whole host of reasons. I didn’t consider or look at the options of part time cloth nappies or even starting at 3 months or even 6 months. I did extensive research to make sure that I found the product and ultimately the brand that was worth the upfront investment. I found that GroVia ticked all the boxes for the modern cloth nappy that I was looking for…snap options, double leg gussets, slim lines, quick drying, good quality materials etc. So from the day my little ladybug was born she has been wearing her modern cloth nappies and, with the daily wear, the Hubby & I have been seeing how the product works AND learning how babies work….as we are also first time parents too.
I always thought it peculiarly that parents shared or talked about their babies poo and quietly thought to myself, that I would not share about this subject. Well, I quickly came to learn that it goes part in parcel with having a baby. Within minutes of my little ladybug being born she passed her first black meconium and then next you get use to reporting to the midwives that ‘yes’ baby had several wee and poo today. It is so normal and important to talk about for the health of your baby, that now I find it amusing that I would turn my nose up about this subject previously. Ha! How you see things differently when you become a parent.
So what was my ‘win‘??? Well, now that we are 6 months in, we have started ‘Baby Led Weaning‘ and giving our little ladybug foods to munch on, discover and accompany her milk feeds. As her diet is changing and her little system is adjusting and you guessed it…her poos are changing, life has actually become that much easier! Ha! As you learn, breastfed poo is wet and runny but sweet-smelling. It also happens a few times during the day. Now with the introduction of foods, we also have a little rhythm of ONE poo a day and it is more semi-formed and not runny…therefore, that much easier to spray off or be caught in the flushable liner and then pop into the dry bucket for washing. Nappy cleaning got that much faster and that my friends is a little win for this modern cloth nappy mom. It also gives you that daily confirmation, that YES, cloth is easy, affordable, eco-friendly and anyone can do it. It does NOT take a lot of of extra time, time is relative to how you use it. It might take the same amount of time to walk/drive to the shops to buy more disposables for example.
As Mrs Ladybeetle, I strive to share my experience as a first time mom and therefore a first time modern cloth nappy user. I am passionate about helping educate other families, that there is an alternative to disposables and you don’t have to live in the country to consider cloth. I live in an apartment in the metropolitan area of Sydney Australia and have succeeded for six months so far with the full time Hybrid cloth nappy system from GroVia! I love this journey that we are on and quite simply want to shout out loud about it.
